Bynum Jr. On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter (VBAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted its Dr. Dorothy I. Height Scholarship and Awards Program at Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The annual program celebrated academic excellence, leadership, community service, and the achievements of outstanding individuals dedicated to uplifting the community. The purpose of the Dr. Dorothy I. Height Scholarship and Awards Program was to encourage higher education, support outstanding African American youth in their academic endeavors, and recognize individuals who demonstrated exceptional leadership and service within their communities. The event brought together educators, students, community leaders, families, and supporters for an inspiring afternoon of recognition and celebration. During the ceremony, Brother W. Terry Calhoun was honored with a Service Award for Political Awareness and Involvement. The award recognized his continued dedication to civic engagement, community leadership, and efforts to increase political awareness throughout the Hampton Roads community. Brother Calhoun’s commitment to service and advocacy reflected the values of leadership, scholarship, and public service that the program sought to promote. His recognition highlighted the importance of active community involvement and the impact that dedicated leaders can have on future generations.
