In 1976, ten youthful men in their early twenties brothers of like ideals and similar attainment saw opportunity to expand the Fraternity's presence.
Brothers Gary C. Clark, James E. Dixon (Ω), Robert W. Fairchild, Michael C. Faulcon (Ω), Carl W. Haywood, Hilary H. Jones, III, Anthony R. Knight, Bishop K. Perry, Harold A. Thurman and Marvin L. Whitehurst (Ω) realizing that the value of our Fraternity was not in numbers, but in men, in real brotherhood, believed that the establishment of a graduate chapter of our beloved Fraternity was greatly needed in Virginia Beach.
The chapter was to be an Oasis in Virginia Beach during a time void of any Pan-Hellenic Council organizations. On March 22, 1976, National Executive Secretary Harold J. Cook informed the brothers that their request to form a new chapter had been approved and the name Gamma Xi, assigned.
