GAMMA XI OMEGA MAN OF THE YEAR GETS BACK TO WORK

The Nov 18, 2017 Joint Achievement Week luncheon was over. Honorees, family members, friends, and Fraternity Brothers milled about as banquet servers cleared the banquet hall at Norfolk State’s Scott-Dozier Hall. Gamma Xi’s Omega Man of the Year, Bro. James Barber was out the door, plaque in hand, a change of clothes in his SUV and turkeys. The chapter’s Social Action Chair was back in work mode, taking the lead in one of several things that earned him chapter recognition at this year’s Achievement Week awards event.
Within an hour of downing his meal, he rallied the Brothers, along with family, friends, supporters and members of the chapter’s Golden Fold mentoring group. After the obligatory photos, he split the group into two and divided ten boxes of turkeys and sides equally, sending them on their way. He, himself, led one of the groups to several neighborhoods to donate food items to needy families, and spread the good will of the Fraternity. In addition to Thanksgiving and Christmas food donations, Bro. Barber has coordinated Gamma Xi’s St. Jude’s and Relay for Life fund raising efforts, along with Adopt-a-Highway for several years |

Mission
Through our various fund raising endeavors, the assistance of and donations from sponsors, and our community support programs, we will raise funds as well as awareness in order that we may aid our community, particularly our community youth.
