GAMMA XI CHAPTERS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, “THE GOLDEN FOLD” ENDS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR
JUNE 24, 2020
James Dixon & Calvin Sears Scholarships Virtual Awards to deserving VA Beach HS school seniors.
The Crossing the Bar Ceremony usually is the capstone event of the Gold Fold Movement as we send off our senior members into adulthood and to college or wherever their journey may take them. We also incorporate the Gamma Xi Chapter’s James Dixon & Calvin Sears Memorial Scholarship to college bound senior awardees. In spite of these trying times a virtual ceremony was organized by Chairman Bro. William "Terry" Calhoun and his dedicated committee to recognize and present these deserving young men with scholarships towards their future educational endeavors . We congratulate them for their hard work as they move towards bright successful futures.
On this night we celebrate Adulthood, Scholarship, Endurance, and Uplift, which are the calling cards of the young men we will revered during the event. The Gamma Xi Chapter along with the support of the Gamma Xi Uplift Foundation awarded $1,000.00 scholarships to well deserving college bound students.
The Golden Fold's Crossing the Bar ceremony is a conglomerate of three influences. This ceremony incorporates Old English literature which points to the roots of the American Dream and value of Freedom. We secondly include a West African approach to the African tradition of parents offering their child to the Almighty Creator while blessing the tools of the creator which reside in the youth. Lastly the parents of each awardee participate in the ceremony along with their graduating senior.
